The New Zealand Star was the second of
two new buildings by Bremer Vulkan's for Blue Star Line in 1967 for the
Australia & New Zealand service. Fitted with Stülcken heavy derricks, I
believe to carry the machinery for the
Manapouri
Hydroelectric Scheme in South Island, New Zealand. With the
introduction of containerisation, she was converted to a cellular
containership by her original builders in 1977.

The above photographs were taken on her last
departure from Wellington on the 31/07/1993 with Captain Collin Munday and
piloted by Captain Peter Stacey, when she took a round turn around the inner
harbour. The photo at right was taken after Peter Stacey had disembarked for the
last time.
