Blue Star Line Ships of the 60's (Clip)
Blue Star Line Ships of the 60's
(Clip 1.29 min) This DVD is made from 8mm
cine film that I took during the time I spent working for Blue Star
Line in the 1960’s. So most of it is now well over 40 years old,
some has stood up well but some is a bit dark etc. The original 8mm
film has now been deposited with the South East England Film Archive
to be saved for posterity. Although the copyright stays with me
therefore this DVD must only be used for home use. I left training
school (Vindi) and sailed for Royal Mail Line until June 1962 and
joined the Melbourne Star as ‘galley boy’ and did two trips to New
Zealand etc. Then in June 1963, I joined the English Star at Dover
again doing two trips to New Zealand. Most of 1964, I spent on the
Paraguay Star to BA. January 1965 saw me on the California Star
’Sailing under Tower Bridge’. March 1965 saw me flying to Belgium to
join the Colorado Star in Antwerp. After working on board for six
weeks we sailed for Glasgow to load whiskey for the west coast of
USA. July 1965 back on the California Star. Then in September 1965
flew to join the Genova Star in Italy and was still on board when
she changed over to the Italian flag in 1966. Back to London for two
more trips on the ‘Uruguay Star’, the last Blue Star Line ship I
sailed on. I spent the rest of the 60’s on the Eluthera, Aragon,
Tekoa and my last ever ship the Tongariro. I have included a short
film from the Tongariro, when we rescued survivors from the "Tiki
III" off the north cape of New Zealand. I hope you enjoy this old
8mm cine film and it brings back lots of memories for you as it has
for me. You will see other Blue Star Line ships during this DVD. ~
