Capt. Peter Stacey has for the last twenty years been a pilot in
Wellington,
New Zealand.
He did his pre-sea training in Hull, joining Blue Star Line in
1965 as a Deck Cadet. He stayed with Blue Star Line for the next 15 years (the
last 5 years as Chief Officer) before coming ashore at the end of 1979.
As a Cadet he started a collection of photographs of the fleet but
did not start collecting in earnest until he went ashore.
In 1989 when the pilot service started transferring to the
ships by helicopter, it offered a different platform from which to take
his photographs.
He is a member of the The New
Zealand Ship & Marine Society and the Vestey Group
Shipping Association.
