Norman Star beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, San
Francisco, 1948. We were bound for Stockton - approximately 60 miles harbour
steaming up the San Joaquin river to load dried fruit and canned horsemeat. We
discharged at a devastated and starving Hamburg after breaking down for four
days in mid Atlantic. A very happy ship though ! Incidentally: her engine, as
I remember, was a triple expansion with a Bauer-Wach exhaust turbine which was
inoperative.
