Gangway Volume 2/9 2nd June 2004
Scottish Star
Scottish Star under Star Reefer colours off Portishead April 2004As I ran out of space in the last Gangway I thought I would send a postscript. The above photograph was taken by Ross Robson from Battery Point, Portishead in April. She had apparently arrived from New Zealand and discharged her cargo at Avonmouth. Considering that she is now exactly 20 years old she looks in remarkably good condition. The colours she carries are those of the Star Reefer Group who now own and operate her. To see a large version and of her and in Newark in 1989 click the photo.
Technical Notes:
After trying to be too clever with my PC and uninstalling what I thought was an unnecessary program, I discovered to my horror that none of the hover buttons such as in the menus were viewable. Although the website is produced on Microsoft FrontPage 2002, it seems due to legal wrangling Microsoft have fallen out with Java script producers and no longer include it as part of Internet Explorer 6.0 +. I had experienced the same problem on a new PC on my ship with the latest XP Professional installed. If you are having difficulties viewing Java Applets on web pages you can download the necessary software/plug in at Java Sun Microsystems for free. Choose your OS and whether you want to download for online or offline installation.
I have also started to add a small text menu at the bottom of pages, so that Smart Phones, PDA's etc can navigate the pages, as normally they are incapable of browsing web pages containing Java Script.I am always grateful if people can advise me of broken links, which I do test regularly or any other viewing problems.
P&O Nedlloyd:
As some will be aware, P&O has sold it's 50% stake in P&O Nedlloyd to concentrate on ports development, this is after shedding it's Cruise division last year. The P&O Nedlloyd has come to an agreement to continue using the name under the total ownership and control of Royal P&O Nedlloyd NV of Holland. Such are the complications of the shipping industry!
Although I don't wish to digress into becoming a P&O Nedlloyd website here are a couple of fine pictures by Peter Stacy with his new digital camera!
