Andrew Michael:

I regret having to advise Andrew Michael passed away earlier this month. His funeral was on the 4th August. Following the takeover by P&O Nedlloyd in 1998, Andrew joined Blue Star Line from ACTA in 1991. Andrew stayed on with Bridge Line before joining OOCL. Andrew has been in ill health for a number of years.

While with BSL as the container controller he was diabetic, but after leaving BSL his health deteriorated to such a point where he was waiting for a liver and had been waiting for a number of years. After OOCL he was home and hospital bound. He was only in his late 40s when he passed away. We had weekly/monthly contact with him, but somehow none of us had contact with him over the past few weeks and none of us was informed about him dying.

Robert (Bob) Guy ~ 1942 - 2006

I regret having to advise, Bob Guy ex Chief Officer, Blue Star Line passed away last week and was cremated in Cairns last Friday. It appears Bob had been suffering from a kidney ailment for sometime. Bob left BSL in the 70s and later became a Barrier Reef pilot. ~ Tom Jones

I was very sorry to hear of Bob's passing,
I was at Warsash with Bob and met him on numerous occasions both professionally as our careers progressed in Blue Star and socially when he had leave in
New Zealand. I also had the pleasure of seeing Bob in Cairns a couple of years ago where my wife and I were royally treated to a superb dinner at his home. A lively and amusing raconteur Bob was (and I know he would excuse the pun) - a really great guy!  Rest in peace  Bob Fozard

I am saddened to advise of the passing of Captain Robert Guy lately a Great Barrier Reef Pilot but formerly with Blue Star from Cadet to Master 1950’s-1980’s

Bob died suddenly in Cairns Hospital (Queensland Australia) aged 64 on Tuesday 8th August .He had been piloting in the Reef up until 3 weeks ago. Bob will be remembered for his good humor, consummate professionalism, disdain for bureaucratic red tape, gardening prowess and as a dedicated follower of the Chelsea Football Club.

During his piloting days it was mandatory for Bob to be at home for the FA Cup final. After leaving Blue Star, Bob worked for Perkins Bros. out of Darwin before joining Torres Pilots in 1993 and was the first licensed pilot under the Australian Maritime Safety Authority deregulated system. His funeral is to be held in Cairns Friday 11th followed by an appropriate wake to follow.

He will be sadly missed by many. ~ Iain Steverson

Richard Young, Ian MacKillop & friend Tommy ~ Photograph Richard Young

A few weeks ago I was helping an old friend move his yacht from Inverness down the Caledonian Canal to a marina down the west coast of Scotland. We were locking up at Fort Augustus; I was at the helm and my pal with the lines on the lockside when a 'well kent' face peered over the lock wall! It was, of course, Ian MacKillop and it was great to meet up with him again. I saw him in Fort Augustus a few years ago and he was just about to move to Ullapool and hadn't realised he had moved back to Fort Augustus. We moored up at the top of the locks and I went down to Ian's house. Unfortunately, his wife was out but we sat in the garden and did some catching up.  We delayed our departure from Fort Augustus long enough for small refreshment, before continuing on our way in glorious weather through the beautiful Canal. ~ Richard Young

Walley Trickett Paintings etc.

Commissions received to date are all underway, if you have commissioned maritime work you should hear from me very soon. If you are thinking of having a painting produced for Christmas my cut off date is August 31st (.I like to have all my overseas work posted before December to avoid any hassles/strikes etc that tend to loom around then). Postcards are still available and the third series will be published at a date to yet to be announced. A 2007 calendar project is currently being priced, I will send out prices if they are realistic enough. Whilst demand is not known it is likely a very limited number would be printed and payment would be required prior. More on this shortly. Christmas Card - A scene of a B.S.S.M. vessel in a Northern Hemisphere port setting. Current ideas are being discussed, and scene if completed would be made available in late October. If you wish to commission a scene for this project of a ship you recall spending Christmas on in port please contact Walley Trickett
