One of a class of two, which were the first purpose built container ships, built by Blue Star Line for the West Coast of America service, thus superseding the conventional ships that had previously operated this service.  Schedules normally took in the ports of Liverpool - Long Beach (Los Angeles) - San Francisco - Oakland - Seattle - Vancouver.
