The Brodland made Blue Star Line's first official sailing from Barry Dock with coal for Buenos Aires on the 1st February 1912. Unfortunately her career was short lived as on a similar voyage to Punta Arenas, she was wrecked on Aberavon Beach during a south-westerly gale enroute from Port Talbot. The whole crew were rescued by breeches buoy.
